Amazing Island (GC) Review

Amazing Island takes you on a role of a boy or Girl (you choose), who got inside a book and traveled to Amazing Island, where the islanders need your help to defeat evil. Many people says it's like Pokemon and Mario party together, which sounds like something good but it really isn't. The mini games are certainly very Mario party style but no as fun as those. and just because you create and collect monsters, doesn't make it already similar to Pokemon.

The only great thing of this game is the ability to create your monster in different ways. Which is all very interesting, yet after spending so much time in creating the perfect monster, you only use it in some very simple mini games that are mostly about button smashing that does not require the monster to be that much strong. The characters and monster in the game look very weird in design, cartoon but gone wrong. And the backgrounds of the landscapes look way too simple, even for a cartoon type of game. The music fits enough with each mini game, I suppose.

However, there is a lot of reading instead of voiceovers, in which you will probably not read because its simply uninteresting. Overall, is really hard for me to recommend since anyone who wants mini games can easily pick up mario party, and whoever wants to create their monster, I suggest Spore as something more effective in monster creating.

Score: 5.5/10 Mediocre

Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast (GC) Review

Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi outcast let's you play the role of Kyle Katarn who then becomes a jedi, again. This game features deep battles with lightsabers, plus you can also use different guns like rockets and you also have force powers like lightning, push, pull, speed, and many more. The problem of this game is that you have many loading times, and if you lose, you have start all over again unless you save the game of course. But the worst is that you have to wait for another loading screen so you can start from where you died. Yet, these are some minor errors really.

The thing that impress me the most was the jedi arena because they can be 10 computer players at the same time, and you can play it alone or with a friend. In jedi arena you have lots of different modes like free for all, capture the flag, duel, etc. Plus the arenas are big enough to bring some fun exploration in some of the best star wars scenarios. You can play with any character that appears in the game, even Luke skywalker and Lando, but you have to unlock them first though.

Jedi Knight II have some great detailed places, yet the character designs need more work, but the special effects including the lightsaber are good. The music is very memorable from star wars movies and other past star wars games. The voiceovers are okay, so nothing really to complain.

Overall if your looking for a great Star Wars in which verything is on foot and featurs lightsabers, then you can easily pick up this one.

Mario Party 6 (GC) Review

The first Mario Party was released on the Nintendo 64 bringing something new, a board game where the player with the most Stars at the end of the game, wins. But you will need enough coins to buy the star, so you must go play minigames when everyone's turn is over. The game was successful but then many other people tried to copy the same idea like: sonic shuffle, shrek super party, and many more. They release a total of 3 Mario Party's on the Nintendo 64, each year a new one was released. On 2002, comes Mario Party 4 for the Cube with improved graphics and even more fun minigames. A year later comes Mario Party 5 with a new singleplayer and the new system of capsules. Now another year later Mario Party 6 is released bringing the new microphone, exclusively for the Gamecube.

Introducing the new characters Brighton the Sun and Twila The Moon that are the hosts of the game and thanks to them we have the day and night system. Solo mode plays the same like Mario Party 5, in which you have to go against the koopa kids in minigames and if you take out all of his coins he is defeated. All the characters from the last Mario Party game are there, plus you can unlock Toadette, in which no one knows from where she came from.

In this version we have these orbs that look very familiar to the capsules on Mario Party 5. In which you can use in yourself to give you extra dice, invincibility, let you swipe coins from an opponent or get a star quickly. Also you can throw orbs in near by spaces to swipe coins of the opponent's who land in that space. You can buy them in the store of orbs called the orb hunts.

Day and Night: On some boards, spaces will move when there is day or night. Prices of stars might change, Minigames change in appearance or availability. Certain games even flip upside down and even the proprietors of orb hunts change.

Microphone Mode: You can speak up in a quiz game, order a character to grab a star and run in star print, or choose from 5 1 vs. 3 minigames, in which a player speaks into the microphone and the other 3 made do it with controllers. I know is fun but there is problem with the microphone in responding, and they could use the idea more.

All of this is fun but in the end you will see that the minigames are simple and you feel you already played them. The microphone is a good idea, but you will find problems in it and you only can use one at the same time. Boards play like most Mario Party games and orbs are just like capsules the only change is the name and that you can now buy them.

Mario Party 6 is starting to look a bit outdated. The character models look just like the other Mario party's on the Gamecube and the backgrounds and textures in the minigames are not vibrant like other Mario party games is definitely losing his style and comparing it with Mario Power Tennis, there is not much to say about this game.

Another thing here is the sound. Everything sounds very familiar to like all the Mario Party games, thought it's not annoying, we just want to hear something new. And like all Mario Party games, there is no voice acting which has always been a problem because there is just too much reading.

Party Mode is still fun to play against other players, but sadly the multiplayer with the microphone is by taking turns, otherwise only one person can used it at the same time and some people might be tired of playing this Gameplay again and again. The good thing is that the CPU does his turns a little faster and you don't have to see there duels but you still see them hitting the block and walk all the spaces they have to do. Solo mode is the same like Mario Party 5 going against the koopa kids, and the extra things are not really interesting.

Is really hard to recommend a game that plays just like his previous ones. But for those who love the Mario Party series and wants even more then you can easily pick up this one, other wise just give it a rent. As a fan of the Mario Party franchise I found this game quite same like the other ones and if you think the microphone is really going to make the game sweet, think again when you use it. This is one of the most disappointing games of 2004.

Mario Power Tennis (GC) Review

Mario has always been an icon because of the many genres that it has gone through such as sports titles, party games, etc. On the N64, Mario Tennis was released and was a great hit. Now, Nintendo finally gives us another tennis game for the Gamecube!

Mario Power Tennis brings a new gameplay element to the franchise, and is called the Power Shot. The Power Shot is a power that each character has, in different kind of ways, to either hit the ball stronger or to hit balls that are difficult to reach. Yet, the rest of the gameplay is as good as ever with a tournament mode that is to easily defeat all the characters in the tournament so you can unlock new minigames, new courses and new characters. Yet, Some tournaments can get a little too hard. The game controls are pretty easy so everyone can have some fun and play.

Another difference to the first game is that we have some minigames that are quite fun then expected. One of them is to hit the ghosts with the balls, others have you fighting against mecha bowser, were you have to fire balls at him until he dies but be careful of the bullets, bombs and his flamethrower.

Mario Power Tennis is not the best looking game out there, but the character design, course design and the short cinematic they do when they are going to do a power shot, are well done. Also, the cinematic at the beginning is very long but quite fun to watch.

The music tunes are nice but some are not that much good or impressive. The voice acting of the characters however remains great. However, the best thing of the game is the multiplayer were you can play with up to 4 people. Making it one of the best multiplayer games of this year 2004, were you will have a blast more than Mario party 6.

With the killer multiplayer, minigames and a little challenging tournaments it really deserves a buy. Anyone looking for some great multiplayer should buy it, but if if you also liked the first game you will also like this one.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (Movie) Review

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith Movie

So finally the last movie prequel of Star Wars is released and I must say it does not dissapoint, well at least for a fan like me.

Episode III brings what the movies didn't deliver that includes lots of Jedi battles and more violence and that's why it got a PG-13. The movie starts pretty much with a space battle which totally looks amazing how the camera moves and you see a scene where all of this ships are fighting stunning. Count Dooku returns pretty much with just at the beggining on the movie does another jedi battle with Obi-Wan and Anakin then dies.

We also have General Grievous which was introduced on the cartoon series shown on cartoon network and now on DVD volume 1 which I might try review later. Grievous is pretty disapointing he can use 4 lightsabers at the same time but he's not really a master on the jedi arts and he's fight with Obi-Wan is pretty short but then again this movie is all about Anakin. The jedi battles move so fast that you see the theather flasing so much.

The dialogue once again by Anakin and Padme is terrible and pretty much useless but at least you can skip them when it comes on DVD. There is still some dumb lines on the movie as well but you get so much into the action that you easily forget about it. But this time what you see strong is the relationship between Anakin and Palpatine and Ian McDiarmid does a fine job with the character.

The thing about this movie is that it has some very strong scenes when Anakin turns into the dark side that includes when he's going to kill young jedi kids. Which some parents may not like but then agan I see kids who see terminator and all of those monster movies so is not really that big. Altough when Palpatine transforms it might scare some kids on how he looks. Also is sad when they show all the jedi's dying by falling into a trap.

Episode III delivers what any star wars fan wanted if you do not enjoy this movie then you are scary and totally weird specially for a fan. While some stuff might not be all that great is still the most action pack star wars movie ever made.
