Megaman & Bass (GBA) Review

"A nice shooter game for the GBA that megaman fans should definitely check out!" - sonicphoto

My uncle found a GBA SP with the game megaman and bass at the movie theater, do, he gave me both things. They were in very good conditions. O wait, yeah this is a review of the game.

Ok, this game can be really fun for any Megaman fan out there who already know what there in for. The game features many different powers to collect, when you defeat a Boss in each stage you will receive one of them. The stages are very long and very difficult sometimes, but that's something typical of megaman. The difference between the characters Megaman and Bass, is that Bass shoots more faster than megaman. However, Megaman can recharge and shoot a giant blue ball. The music is very cool techno edgy style of the megaman series. Unfortunately, there is little save progress in the stages which makes clearing each level a lot difficult.

The graphics in terms of character design or should I say robot design are very good impressive 2-D. Some of the best graphics I have ever seen on the GBA. Some robots look pretty creepy like clowns, but at least each robot has a unique design. Overall Megaman fans should definitely check out this title because is pure traditional megaman instead of the other rpgs on the GBA.

Score: 8/10 Great

Sonic Advance 2 (GBA) Review

"Features sonic fast speed thrilling moments and new additions for Sonic in 2-D" - sonicphoto

Sonic Advance 2 fixes what was wrong with the first installment. The game has more of the sonic speed thrilling moments you know and love and not too much platforming that stops the action, like his predecessor. The graphics are a bit better with more animations like seeing multiple sonic's at the same time that describe that you are in high speed. The soundtrack is also better and fits stronger with each stage in a unique way then Sonic Advance 1.

However, Advance 2 also delivers some new issues in the gameplay. Of Course you love going in high speed with Sonic but later and harder levels will leave you with unexpected traps like no floor to keep running and die. And it gets annoying because while you enjoy Sonic in high speed, suddenly he can easily fall for enjoying too much of it. Another issue is that boss fights are more of a chase that make harder to reach dr.eggman's different machines and require a more precise timing in doing jumps. Also, if you get beaten by the boss you will have to restart act 1 and 2 for that world all over again.

Despite a few issues here and there, Sonic Advance 2 is still better than the original. However, Sonic Advance 3 is even better because it removes the issues from both 1 and 2 and that is why Sonic Advance 3 is the best of the series. Still, Sonic fans should definetely give a try to Sonic Advance 2 if you simply love 2-D Sonic gameplay.

Score: 8/10 Great

Disney Kim Possible: Revenge Of Monkey Fist (GBA) Short Review

"A solid game that does a great job bringing the great series to the GBA" - Sonicphoto

The gameplay is pretty traditional 2-D by kicking and punching enemies. But you also use gadgets to help you along the way. Kim also features a lot of acrobatics moves to jump and avoid enemies that sometimes can be hard to perform but you later get the hang of it. Yet the really big problem with the game is that it's too short. The graphics are very nice for a gba game and they nicely brought the look of the series. The music has a nice touch and goes nicely with each level. Since is short, you may want to play it some more time. Kim Possible fans will definitely like this game. If you never liked the series or had any interest in it, then look for something else. You can finish the game in an hour or less with 8 levels sadly. But, if you buy it for a low price then is worth the price.

Score: 8/10

Star Fox 64 (N64) Short Review

"Simply put, the best game I ever played" -sonicphoto

Why? because I have finished it like a hundred times and I simply don't get tired of doing everything all over again. There is no other shooter game like this! The graphics for an n64 game are really excellent with awesome character design and each planet really interesting to see. I love the characters, I love the voices of the characters, I completely love the music. This is the typeo f game I been looking forward to receive in a long time and still haven't! Star Fox 64 is an instant classic. I have nothing negative to say about it.It maybe a little short but they are different routes to take, so you can finish the game in many different ways and some really strong unlockables that only the great experts have been able to unlock! If you love shooting games of spaceships, you must absolutely play this game.

Score: 10/10 Perfect (The only game I have given a score of perfect 10)

Sonic Heroes (GC) Review

"While is not better then sonic adventure 2, it still does an excellent job in delivering a REAL 3-D Sonic game" - sonicphoto

Sonic Heroes was a game that some people like it, and other simply didn't. Sonic Heroes gave players the oppurtunity to control a team of 3 characters, each with their own unique ability. They are in toal 4 teams that you can play with, in which three of them have the samestages but the difficulty is different on each team. There is also Team Chaotix that also have the same level but are done in a different way which is finding stuff like Knuckles did on the Adventure games but with no radar, all by yourself.

The team combination helps a lot in porgressing through the game. One character is the speed dude where you can go through the stage running around fast, perform tornados to go a round in cirles on a poll and many other stuff. The power dudes are what I like to call the fighters. The power dues are the best to destroy robots and obstacles that are in the way. And last but not least, is the flyers which basically fly all the characters together to high places. They are also some special robots that can only die by a specific character.

Featuring nice puzzles done by the help of your teammates. Switching to one character to the other, works smoothly throughout the game. The only two things the game failed to achieve is the story that is not told well and the fact that each team has the same stages making the game lack some variety. Sonic Heroes is a great addition to the series despite his problems and at least features the 3-D sonic platforming formula that worked in the adventure games, instead of the other formulas trying to make with unleashed and the secret rings.

Score: 9/10

Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC) Short Review

"A classic fighting game that I will never forget" - sonicphoto

By the time it was released, it was the best multiplayer experience in videogames and a game used to make many tournaments around the world. It featured lots and lots of different modes. And it's still a game that you would play for a long time. The graphics were quite a big improvement from the first game on the nintendo 64 and the soundtrack featuring all the greatest soundtrack from each nintendo franchise is absolutely perfect.Your friends would always want to come to your house just to play Super Smash Brothers Melee. The game was a huge improvement to the first Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 in just about every single way you could imagine. And now, Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii goes even more beyond then that!

Score: 9.5/10

Custom Robo (GC) Review

"Custom Robo is a surprisingly a great new series featuring robots!" - sonicphoto

There was a game called Custom Robo for Nintendo 64, but it was only released in Japan. Now Nintendo decided it to release it here in the US.

The story of the game is that small, powerful robots have become the number –one tool of criminals around this world. These tiny, remote-controlled robotic weapons operate within restricted virtual battlefields known as holosseums. The ability to mix and match the different parts of these mechanical marvels earns them the name Custom Robos. The people who control custom robos are known as commanders. Our story follows a young man acting on the last words of his long-lost father-he must become a custom robo commander. With his father's final words on his mind, he joins up with the bounty hunters Steel Hearts. When you progress trough the game the story gets more interesting and intense. The characters have each a special personality that make them memorable.

In this game you battle with robots, but in this one you can customize your own robot by choosing which body part, gun part, bomb part, pod part and Legs part you want. However you get each part when you progress through the game's story mode. In the story mode you play as a boy who wants to become a robo commander. Custom Robo is an RPG but kind of different from all normal RPG's because there is no puzzle solving or anything like that, you just read what they say and battle. The battle system is very easy to play.

They are lots of things to shoot with, but most of the time you will using the real gun to shoot because the missiles and traps aren't so helpful. You can also charge at enemies like some sort of push but in a really fast way that takes hp of the opponent.

Custom Robo may not have the best graphics. out there, but the robot models look very good. And the arenas are design in a very cool way that goes nicely with the theme of the game. Unfortunately in the story part, the places are missing quite a level of details and same goes with the characters that look rather decent.

The music fits with the game very well and never feels annoying. Sound effects were are also in great quality specially during the robot fights, every attack sound smoothly. Yet, there is no voiceovers in the story which is a shame because of the great amount of dialogue the game features. However, the big potential of Custom Robo is the multiplayer feature. You can play up to 4 players in great amazing battles.

Custom Robo may not be a game for everyone to like but if you are looking for an easy battling game with a nice story, characters, robots and some great multiplayer then this game might be for you.

Score: 8/10 Great!

Pokemon Colosseum (GC) Review

''Pokemon Colosseum is a huge disapointment, as it does not deliver what a pokemon RPG should be'' - sonicphoto

Pokemon has been very popular in videogames because of the great RPG’s on the gba. Mostly because you can capture as many Pokemon you want. Then, on the N64 they released Pokemon stadium that delivers the same turn based battles but in full 3-D. Some didn’t enjoy the game because there was no adventure, but it still did a nicely done job on the battle system. It later got a sequel, until it was time for a new console, which meant time for a new pokemon game. And so, on 2004 for the Gamecube we got Pokemon Colosseum in which you have a full 3-D Pokemon RPG. But is it really what everyone has been waiting for?

Pokemon as always been about turn based battles and this is no exception. You will start with Espeon and Umbreon as your first 2 Pokemon. Moving on we all know that in the gba games you go to wild grass to capture different types of Pokemon and the challenge was to catch them all. Well, in this one you have the shadow Pokemon. They are Pokemon that have been suffering by bad trainers, so you must steal them from the enemy with poke balls and then train them well enough to vanish there shadow away. A Girl that you rescue will help you identify which Pokemon is covered by the shadows, how does she do it? No idea.

The thing is that when you capture one shadow pokemon, they only have one move until there anger from the shadows goes down and you will be able to have more attacks for the pokemon. When there anger is over. you take them to a temple to vanish there darkness and make it a normal Pokemon. Unfortunately, it’s really difficult to fight with just one attack so eventually you will be using most of the time in the game Espeon and Umbreon that you received in the first place in there natural form. You can get a flute to vanish only one Pokemon from the shadows fast, but you only do it once.

In the gameboy games you needed to walk or go in a bicycle to other cities. In this game you go in a vehicle that is like a car but you only choose where to go and you will see a cinematic of him in the car, and that’s it. The game doesn’t even feature that much of puzzles, it’s more battling and listening to the story. And even worst the game is quite short of about 5 hours. The cities are not even interesting to look around. They are not like in the Gameboy games that you get some special tickets, contests and stuff like that. Everything is basically fighting with strategy and snagging shadow Pokemon. And the battling does not help the game because of the limited amount of pokemon to choose from and no special attacks.

The backgrounds are sometimes nice to look at. They are fresh and detailed some sand and grass places. But, the characters look so weird starting with the character you play as. Why does he have a white line on his face? The villains are so dumb that you never taken them seriously. One of them is a dancer, another one is some strange woman with the weirdest dress. They didn’t really work on the characters well enough to be memorable in a good way. The special effects in the attacks of the pokemon isn't that much impressive even if the pokemon do look nice, I wish that considering the gamecube is more powerful then N64 it would truly show it in the characters. The only nice graphics are the backgrounds, villages.

The music sounds very digital and pretty cool as usual of pokemon, but, it gets repetitive when you are fighting. Also when you are just walking around, they sound too simple and boring in the villages and such. It is suppose to be an RPG, so where are the voiceovers? There is none. Voiceovers in RPG’s are important so you can get more into the game's story and not read, and read, and read. Sound effects are pretty good but any game can do good sound effects, I guess.

Pokemon Stadium gave you the chance to choose any Pokemon you want in multiplayer and in single player, but they also let you use Pokemon from red, yellow and blue or silver and gold version. Colosseum let’s you play with the Pokemon in your ruby or sapphire and that's about it and you need the gba link cable that is not included in the game. Or you can use the Pokemon you captured in the game, which is not saying much. This feels sometimes impossible to play, because if you or your friend doesn’t have a gba link cable you can’t play with good pokemons. The single player mode does not deliver any interest in replaying it after you finish it, you just won’t want to keep playing. Clearly they focused more on the singleplayer but still delivered what seems to be a rushed game.

Colosseum is hard to recommend to an old Pokemon fan like me. Just rent it first to see if you can live with the idea of shadow pokemon. While Colosseum brings some interesting ideas of shadow Pokemon in terms of story, it just feels unnecessary.

6/10 Meh

Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros. (GBA) Short Review

''It was a Classic on the NES and is still a Classic today'' - sonicphoto

For those who never played it, this game you jump on goomba's, koopa's, etc. You also hit block and sometimes you will find a star, so if you touch an enemy while you have the power of the star they will die easily. Other times you will find fire flowers, that will let you trow fire balls at enemies. They are also some swimming stages. My only problem is if you get Game Over, you will start all from the beggining. I mean if they released it for the GBA they should put some save progress. The graphics well are not good but hey it's a retro game!

Score: 8/10 Great

Sonic Advance 3 Short Review

The game is really fast like a Sonic game must be. The 2 charcters working together idea works really well. My favorite will be Sonic and Tails together. Tails can fly and take Sonic to high places. Is still the same 2-d adventure with improved graphics and more interesting levels then the other titles. Is the most varied from the series.

The graphics are very well done. Characters animations are very cool. The music fits with the game. Thought it always sound like the same. Sonic fans like me will love this game. If you like the other Sonic Avance games then you will love this one too. This one of my favorite GBA games!

Score: 8.4/10 Great
