"Custom Robo is a surprisingly a great new series featuring robots!" - sonicphoto
There was a game called Custom Robo for Nintendo 64, but it was only released in Japan. Now Nintendo decided it to release it here in the US.
The story of the game is that small, powerful robots have become the number –one tool of criminals around this world. These tiny, remote-controlled robotic weapons operate within restricted virtual battlefields known as holosseums. The ability to mix and match the different parts of these mechanical marvels earns them the name Custom Robos. The people who control custom robos are known as commanders. Our story follows a young man acting on the last words of his long-lost father-he must become a custom robo commander. With his father's final words on his mind, he joins up with the bounty hunters Steel Hearts. When you progress trough the game the story gets more interesting and intense. The characters have each a special personality that make them memorable.
In this game you battle with robots, but in this one you can customize your own robot by choosing which body part, gun part, bomb part, pod part and Legs part you want. However you get each part when you progress through the game's story mode. In the story mode you play as a boy who wants to become a robo commander. Custom Robo is an RPG but kind of different from all normal RPG's because there is no puzzle solving or anything like that, you just read what they say and battle. The battle system is very easy to play.
They are lots of things to shoot with, but most of the time you will using the real gun to shoot because the missiles and traps aren't so helpful. You can also charge at enemies like some sort of push but in a really fast way that takes hp of the opponent.
Custom Robo may not have the best graphics. out there, but the robot models look very good. And the arenas are design in a very cool way that goes nicely with the theme of the game. Unfortunately in the story part, the places are missing quite a level of details and same goes with the characters that look rather decent.
The music fits with the game very well and never feels annoying. Sound effects were are also in great quality specially during the robot fights, every attack sound smoothly. Yet, there is no voiceovers in the story which is a shame because of the great amount of dialogue the game features. However, the big potential of Custom Robo is the multiplayer feature. You can play up to 4 players in great amazing battles.
Custom Robo may not be a game for everyone to like but if you are looking for an easy battling game with a nice story, characters, robots and some great multiplayer then this game might be for you.
Score: 8/10 Great!
